Autumn Trends 2018

Font size

In autumn, we tend to prefer a more natural and hushed atmosphere. Pink flamingos, yellow pineapples and colourful parrots – all of which were super-trendy in summer – are now making way for deco items taken from nature, as well as rich and expressive on-trend colours, such as a sensual dark red or warm yellow.

The Colours for Autumn 2018

A first glance at the interior decoration innovations of autumn 2018 reveals that interior design and the fashion world are adopting this autumn’s trendy colours as promoted by the American Pantone Color Institute. Furniture and interior designers are currently focusing on an incredibly popular deep red.

(Red Pear ), a yellowish green(Ceylon Yellow ) and a strong purple(Ultra Violet ), the Colour of the Year 2018. They are accompanied by a dark ocean blue (Sargasso Sea ) and occasionally an autumn orange (Russet Orange ). Khaki shades like Martini Olive  are popular, too.

Surprisingly, fresh colours such as a light yellow (Limelight ) or an airy purple (Crocus Petal ) are also part of this year’s autumn colour range along with the more subtle colours. With eye-catchers in these summery colours, a mix & match approach offers a fresh interpretation of autumn.

The Deco Trends for Autumn 2018

It is no surprise that decorative wooden mushrooms and pumpkins – which are not only lit at Halloween – are everywhere this autumn. And light is always a welcome guest in this dark season. Thanks to the invention of LED, a huge selection of fairy lights is available with or without decoration. Placed in jars or lanterns, they become beautiful pieces of autumn decoration, especially in combination with objects found in nature, such as branches and twigs from the woods.

These treasures from nature are also stylishly set in scene in vases, which are currently popular in darker colours or made entirely of glass. Candles are the best way of lifting a room’s atmosphere even more. Now, they are usually found in simple candle holders and lanterns.

New Ideas for Autumn 2018

The mid-century look has been running like a golden thread through furniture design for some time. The classic shapes of the 50s and 60s are widely popular, not least because of their timeless beauty.

In keeping with the vintage style, you can now see more and more motifs reminiscent of terrazzo, the speckled mosaic of marble known since ancient times. Paired with a reduced design using metal or concrete, terrazzo patterns provide a stylish counterpoint to natural interior design elements in wood, linen or basketwork, which are also experiencing a renaissance.

As varied as the autumn interior design trends may be, they all have one thing in common: They create a cosy atmosphere in the home, while the cold wind and rain sweep through the streets outside.
